Dear visitors to this web site
The magazine Místní kultura (Local culture) celebrates 20 years since its inception. It composes cultural mosaic of the Czech Republic since 1991, and during that time has changed the form rather than its content. From the very beginning the publisher of Místní kultura has been National Information and Advisory Centre for Culture (NIPOS), the allowance organization of Ministry of Culture.
Initially, readers were receiving the magazine monthly and free of charge, in exchange for community newsletters, from which we have been since 1989 getting most of the source information. Our target group then become municipalities and other institutions of public service. This way the magazine was getting to the workers of culture departments, but gradually the range of readers has been expanding, for example via libraries.
At the beginning of 2008 Místní kultura started solely on the internet (www.mistnikultura.cz) and thus became accessible to everyone interested in an insight into Czech culture environment in a wider range than through the prism of held events.
The thematic scope of the magazine is very broad - from historical monuments through traditional culture to living art. We are interested in what usually large periodicals are passing out, namely the local cultural activities in context. We monitor legislative, financial and spatial conditions for the existence of culture; we are interested in professionals and amateurs, institutions and individuals, and last not least in non-profit sector. We provide observations, ideas and inspiration from all parts of Bohemia, Moravia and Silesia, from big cities and small villages.
In addition to themes and rubrics our web is also structured by region. It is designed to allow uploading news from "outside", used particularly by organizers of cultural events.
Although our interest is targeted in the Czech Republic, now it does not mean that it concerns only the Czech-speaking inhabitants. For example many activities and projects take place on the frontiers with participation of citizens from the other side of the border. There are also many short and long-term staying foreigners living in our country, who are not only interested in local cultural events, but who affect it directly by their own traditions. After all Czech cultural climate can interest anyone.
For those who do not speak the Czech language, we have placed automatic Google translator on our web site which may give you a general idea. In case you are interested in particular article we would translate it into English for you.
In such case do not hesitate to contact us on: redakce@mistnikultura.cz, we will prepare the English version and attach it to the original Czech text.
Your interest or contributions and comments are welcomed
